RARE Pra Somdej Pim Pru Nang, Roi Ploy Noppakao, Ok Wat Ratchanatdaram. A Buddha amulet with figure of Buddha in Māravijaya or Mara Vichai Gesture with his 2 chief disciples Pra Moggallana on his right, and Pra Sariputta on his left. This amulet is called Pra Somdej Pim Pru Nang because it was copied the style of Pra Pru Nang, an ancient open-work lead amulet of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. Made from holy powder, and inlaid with fragments of 9 gems. Made by Pra Maha Komet of Wat Ratchanatdaram, Bangkok in BE 2512 (CE 1969). The 1st Blessing/consecration Ceremony was held at Sala Hor Yenn, Wat Ratchanatdaram in BE 2515 (CE 1972), attended by Luang Phu Toh of Wat Pradu Chimphli, Luang Phor Guay of Wat Khositaram, Luang Phor Prink of Wat Bot Kong Thanu, Luang Phor Naai of Wat Ban Chaeng. And the 2nd Blessing/consecration Ceremony was held at Wat Ratchanatdaram in BE 2522 (CE 1979), attended by Luang Phor Naai of Wat Ban Chaeng, Luang Phor Cheua of Wat Mai Bampen Bun, Luang Phor Put of Wat Thung Kaeo, Luang Phu Nak of Wat Nong Pong, Luang Phor Suwan of Wat Khao Bom Gluay, and Luang Phor Prink of Wat Bot Kong Thanu.

Ploy Noppakao

Noppakao ( or Napparat ), meaning the Jewelry of Nine Gems, is believed to bring individual powers and blessed fortune to the wearer. In olden days, military leaders would wear Noppakao jewelry as charms to ensure victory in battles. Ladies would be gifted these by husbands or fathers to protect blessed virtue & wisdom. Buddha in Māravijaya or Mara Vichai Gesture

Māravijaya gesture is an attitude of Buddha in Thai art of which the seated Buddha is putting his hand in the relax posture towards to the ground, loosely holding his knee. The other hand is on his lap. His eyes, sometimes closed, look down to the ground. The gesture of the hand reaching the ground is called bhumisparshamudra, which also refers to the attitude as well. The gesture refers to the episode which the Buddha calling the earth to witness.

The attitude refers to the episode that he was reaching the enlightenment and being disturbed by maras (demons). Learning that the maras asked him to give up, he touched the ground and called the Phra Mae Thorani (The Mother Earth) to help him fight with the maras. Thoranee called tonnes of water and flooded away the maras. The episode results in the name Mara Vichai which means the "Victory (vichai) over the Mara". The Māravijaya seated Buddha is considered the common attitude for principal Buddha in ubosots of Khmer, Lao and Thai wats and Burmese kyaungs.

A Buddha amulet with figure of a meditating Buddha seating on a lotus flower throne, made from the same types of holy powder as of Pra Pong Kwong Kwan Wat Paknam Roon Neung (the First Batch BE 2494) of Luang Phor Sodh of Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, Bangkok. This batch of Buddha amulets was made around BE 2490 (CE 1947) as gift, and was handed over to the donors (tamboon) for the construction of the temple building of Wat Phasukkaram (Wat Phasuk), Nakhon Pathom Province by Luang Phor Sodh himself.
